Suresh Chanabasappa Angadi (English: Suresh Chanabasappa Angadi, born – 1 June 1955, Belgaum district, Karnataka; died – 23 September 2020, Delhi) was an Indian politician, who was associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party, one of the major political parties in the country. In May 2019, he was elected to the seventeenth Lok Sabha. Suresh Angadi took over the post of Minister of State for Railways.
Suresh Angadi was born on June 1, 1955 in Karnataka to Somavva Angadi and Chanabasappa Angadi. He did his graduation from S. S. S. Samiti College of Commerce, Belgaum. Later he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Law from the prestigious Raja Lakhamgouda Law College, Belgaum.[1] He held many positions in the party during his long political career. In 1996, he became the BJP vice-president of Belgaum. After this, his political journey continued to rise to new heights. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Suresh Angadi, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, became the vice-president of the party’s Belgaum district unit in 1996. He held the post until 1999.
He was named president of the party’s district unit in 2001 and held the position until he was named the party’s candidate for the Belagavi Lok Sabha seat in 2004.
In the 2009 general elections, Suresh Angadi was elected MP for the second term.
In 2014, he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the third consecutive time.
Suresh Angadi died on 23 September 2020 due to corona infection. He was found corona positive on 11 September. Suresh Angadi was the first Union Minister who died due to corona virus infection. Earlier, three MPs have died due to Kovid-19. Suresh Angadi was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi after being found corona positive. He is the first Union Minister and fourth MP who died due to Kovid-19.[2]
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the demise of Suresh Angadi and paid tribute to him. PM Modi tweeted – “Shri Suresh Angadi was an exceptional worker who worked hard to strengthen the party in Karnataka. He was a dedicated MP and effective minister, who was admired everywhere. His demise is sad. My thoughts are with his family and friends in this hour of grief. Om Shanti”.
