There are many players in Indian cricket who are remembered for some reason or the other even after retirement. Many players are known because of their game, many are known because of their looks and many are known because they are compared to great players during their playing time. Today we are talking about a player who was compared with former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
We are talking about former Indian player Saurabh Tiwari, who is celebrating his 35th birthday today i.e. on 30th December. This player from Jharkhand was sometimes compared with former Indian captain Mahendra Singh. Saurav was also fond of having long hair like Dhoni. Not only this, he was also called Chhota Dhoni of Jharkhand.
Showed strength in domestic cricket
Saurabh Tiwari, a left-handed batsman who made his debut for Jharkhand in 2006, has played 115 first-class matches, 116 List A matches and 181 T20 matches, scoring 8030, 4050 and 3454 runs respectively. He has six centuries and 22 fifties to his name in List A cricket, but his figures in red ball cricket are even more impressive. He has scored 22 centuries and 34 half-centuries at an average of 47.51.
Played only three ODI matches for India
Tiwary also played three ODI matches for India in 2010, in which he scored 49 not out in two innings. He was also a part of the India Under-19 team that won the 2008 World Cup under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. He was also part of the Jharkhand team that won the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2011.
There was a stir in IPL
Apart from this, Saurabh Tiwari has also created a stir in IPL. Tiwary has played for four franchises – Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) and Rising Pune Supergiant. He has scored 1494 runs in 74 innings at an average of 28.73 and strike rate of 120.1. He last played an IPL match in 2021. Since then he has not been seen in IPL.
