After being Under Secretary and Deputy Secretary in the Finance Ministry of the Government of Bihar for 2 years, he worked as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce of the Government of India.
Between 1971 and 1973, he served as First Secretary (Commercial) in the Indian Embassy in Bonn, Germany.
He later served as the Consul General of India in Frankfurt between 1973 and 1974. After working in this field for about seven years, he gained experience in the field of foreign trade and India’s relations with the European Economic Community.

However, he again reached Parliament in the year 2005. On June 13, 2009, Sinha resigned from the post of BJP vice-president.[2]

While holding the post of Finance Minister, Yashwant Sinha had rejected some policies and proposals, after which he was also criticized. But the economic reforms carried out by him gave the right direction to the Indian economy. These include cutting interest rates, introducing mortgage interest tax deduction, freeing up the telecom sector, helping to fund the National Highway Authority and deregulating the petroleum business.
