You must have often heard that food should be eaten slowly. If we eat too quickly, it can have a bad effect on the body. Recently, the death of a person has become a painful example of this. A person lost his life during an idli eating competition held in Kanjikode of Palakkad district of Kerala.
The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Suresh, a resident of Alamaram in Palakkad. The incident took place during an idli eating competition organised on the occasion of Onam at Nalmaram, Kollapur. Suresh tried to swallow three idlis at once while participating in the competition. Due to this hurry, he started feeling uncomfortable. According to Chullimada ward member Minmani R, as soon as Suresh tried to swallow the idli, it got stuck in his throat and he started having difficulty in breathing.
Suresh’s condition deteriorated rapidly and he was rushed to a nearby private hospital. But when his condition did not improve, he was shifted to another hospital in Walayar. There, doctors declared him dead.
Suresh was a truck driver by profession and the news of his death has left his family and the local community in deep grief. The police have registered a case of unnatural death in the matter and the body has been kept in the hospital for postmortem. Suresh’s sudden death has turned the joy of Onam into mourning.
