Utpana Ekadashi fasting story—
In ancient times there was a powerful demon named Mur. He had obtained many blessings by doing penance. With his might he defeated all the gods including Indra and took control of heaven. Then all the gods went to Lord Vishnu and told their problem.
– After listening to all the gods, Lord Vishnu got ready to fight with the demon Moor. There was a war between Lord Vishnu and the demon Moor for many years, but there was no result. Due to the boons given to the Moor demon, even God was unable to kill him.
– When Lord Vishnu got tired of fighting, he went to Badrikashram. After reaching here he started resting in a cave. The Moor demon also chased them and reached that cave. Then he saw that Lord Vishnu was resting so he attacked him in that state.
Then a beautiful woman appeared from the body of Lord Vishnu and started fighting with the demon Moore. Within no time the beautiful woman killed the Moor demon. Then when Lord Vishnu woke up from sleep, he asked about the introduction of that woman. The woman told that ‘I am the Ekadashi date born from your own body.’
Then Lord Vishnu said, ‘Being born from my body, you will be called the most sacred of all Tithis. My devotees will please me by keeping fast on Ekadashi date. Those who worship you will also be my devotees. Your manifest date will be known as Utpana Ekadashi.
– Any person who observes the fast on Utpanna Ekadashi, must listen to this story, only then he gets the full benefit of this fast. The sins of the person fasting are erased and after death he attains the supreme state.
