Raamlaxman (English: Raamlaxman, born- 16 September 1942; died- 22 May 2021) was a famous music composer of English cinema. He is especially known for his work in Rajshri Productions’ blockbuster films – ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’. Music composer Ramlaxman’s real name was ‘Vijay Patil’. He was Laxman of the music composer duo Ram-Laxman.

While his partner was Ram i.e. Ram Surendra. After the death of Ram Surendra, Vijay Patil i.e. Laxman added Ram to his name and thus he also became known as Ram Laxman. He gave music in more than 70 films. Apart from English films, Ram Laxman also worked for Marathi and Bhojpuri films. Ram Laxman’s main films include ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, ‘Pathar Ke Phool’, ‘100 Days’, ‘Prem Shakti’, ‘Megha’, ‘Tarana’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ among others.

Musician Ram Laxman was born on 16 September 1942. Very few people know that Ram Laxman’s real name was Vijay Patil and he gave music in films since 70. He learned music from his father and uncle. Later he studied music at ‘Bhatkhande Shikshan Sansthan’. Apart from English films, Ram Laxman also worked for Marathi and Bhojpuri films. Ram Laxman was earlier known as ‘Laxman’ in the industry. Meanwhile, he started working with another musician ‘Ram’. Ram-Laxman used to give music together in English cinema world. But in the year 1976, after singing a song in the film ‘Agent Vinod’ (1977), musician Ram suddenly died and after this musician Laxman alias Vijay Patil changed his full name to Ram Laxman.

Ram Laxman gave music in about 150 films, which include English, Marathi and Bhojpuri. Marathi filmmaker and actor Dada Kondke signed him as a music director for his film ‘Pandu Havaldar’. After this, he gave many hit songs in Sooraj Barjatya’s films. The songs of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ (1989) were superhits. After this, he also gave music in ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994)’ and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ (1999). People still like all the songs of this film. Apart from this, he also gave music in films like ‘Agent Vinod’, ‘Tarana’ and ‘Anmol’.

In a career spanning over four decades, he composed music for over 150 films in English, Marathi and Bhojpuri and worked with renowned film directors like Manmohan Desai, Mahesh Bhatt, GP Sippy, Anil Ganguly and Sooraj Barjatya.

‘Swar Kokila’ Lata Mangeshkar also condoled the death of Ram Laxman. The legendary singer expressed grief over the death of musician Laxman and wrote, ‘I just came to know that a very talented and popular musician Ram Laxman ji has passed away. I am very sad to hear this. He was a very good person. I sang many of his songs which became very popular. I offer my humble tribute to him.’
