Raman Singh or ‘Raman Singh’ (English: Raman Singh, born: October 15, 1952) is an Indian politician. He is the former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. Bharatiya Janata Party leader Raman Singh was a member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1990 and 1993. After that, in 1999, he was elected member of the Lok Sabha. In 1999 and 2003, he also held the post of Minister of State in the Government of India. Raman Singh has been the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh three times – from December 7, 2003 to December 12, 2008, from December 12, 2008 to December 12, 2013, and again from December 12, 2013 to December 17, 2018.

Dr. Raman Singh was born on October 15, 1952 in a farmer family in village Thathapur (now Rampur) in present-day Kabirdham (Kawardha) district of Chhattisgarh. His father late Thakur Vighnaharan Singh was a senior social worker and renowned advocate of the district. Dr. Raman Singh’s mother, Late Mrs. Sudhadevi Singh, was a simple housewife of religious nature. Veena Singh, the wife of Dr. Raman Singh, who has a gentle and polite personality, is also a very well-mannered housewife and social worker. Chief Minister’s son Abhishek Singh is MBA. A graduate in Mechanical Engineering with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, his daughter Asmita is a dentist. Dr. Raman Singh’s primary education took place in Kawardha and Rajnandgaon along with the tehsil headquarters Khairagarh of Chhattisgarh. In the year 1975, he completed BAMS from Government Ayurvedic Medical College, Raipur. Has received the title of. Dr. Raman Singh wanted to serve the poor by becoming a doctor. For this, he had also passed the Pre-Medical Examination (PMT) before taking admission in Ayurvedic College, Raipur, but due to his young age, he was given M.B. B. S. Could not get admission in BA, but later got BAMS from Ayurvedic College. With a degree, he started medicine and became famous as a popular Ayurvedic doctor. While practicing as a private doctor in Thakurpara, Kawardha, his home town, he treated the poor free of cost and gained special popularity as a doctor of the poor. Dr. Raman Singh was also a good volleyball player.[1]
Dr. Raman Singh, elected Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh for the third time, started a new chapter of development of the state after taking oath in the capital Raipur on December 12, 2013. He started his third innings by taking oath among the general public at the Police Parade Ground in Raipur. Dr. Raman Singh is recognized all over the country for his many innovations, working with everyone, for everyone’s development and especially in the interest of the rural poor and farmers.
Filled with the spirit of public service and public welfare, Dr. Raman Singh decided to dedicate his life to a larger goal due to his personal interest in social service. Dr. Raman Singh’s journey in public life started in 1976-77. He was elected councilor of Kawardha Municipality from Shitala Ward in the year 1983-84. He was an MLA in the then Madhya Pradesh Assembly from 1990-92 and 1993-98. During this period, he also made an important contribution as a member of the Public Accounts Committee of the Assembly and as the editor of the Assembly’s magazine ‘Vidhayini’. He won the 1999 Lok Sabha elections from Rajnandgaon constituency. Seeing the talent and popularity of Dr. Raman Singh, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee included him in the Union Cabinet and made him the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry. Dr. Raman Singh showed his efficient administrative ability as the Union Minister of State in this department. Dr. Raman Singh participated in the sixth meeting of the Parliamentary Association of Commonwealth Countries. Apart from this, he also led the country in Indian trade fairs organized in Israel, Nepal, Palestine and Dubai.[1]
Dr. Raman Singh took charge of the post of Chief Minister for the first time after getting the mandate of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly in the first general election of 2003, taking oath among thousands of people in a public ceremony organized at the Police Parade Ground in the capital Raipur on 7 December 2003. . After getting success in the second election of the State Assembly, he took oath as the Chief Minister on 12 December 2008 in the same police parade ground amidst a huge crowd. This time also he took oath as Chief Minister on 12 December. It is also a coincidence that the counting of votes for the 2008 assembly general elections also took place on 8th December and the counting of votes for the third general election also took place on 8th December this time.
