P. R. Krishna Kumar (English: PR Krishna Kumar, born- 23 September 1951; died- 16 September 2020) was a famous Indian Ayurvedacharya. He was the Managing Director of ‘Arya Vaidya Pharmacy’ and Chancellor of ‘Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women’. The Government of India also honored him with ‘Padma Shri’ for his remarkable contribution to Ayurveda.
P.R. Krishna Kumar was born on September 23, 1951 in Shoranur, Kerala. He was the son of P.V. Rama Varrier, founder of Arya Vaidya Pharmacy. P.R. Krishna Kumar founded an institute called ‘AVP Research Foundation’ (AVPRF) to conduct clinical, literary, field and pharmaceutical research and to train Ayurvedic scholars. This institute started the RUDRA clinical documentation program in 2003 to promote practice-based evidence in the field of Ayurveda.[1]
Krishna Kumar was awarded ‘Padma Shri’ in 2009 for his contribution in the field of Ayurveda.
P.R. Krishna Kumar passed away on 16 September 2020. He was undergoing treatment for coronavirus infection in a private hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on 29 August after being found corona positive. He also had blood pressure and heart disease related problems.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled his demise. “P.R. Krishna Kumar’s persistent, enterprising and mission-mode efforts have contributed to making Ayurveda famous across the world. He was a man of immense humility and wisdom. Deeply saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family. Om Shanti,” PM Modi tweeted. PM Modi also shared a photo with Krishna Kumar.
