The two fell in love even before Shahrukh entered Hindi cinema. King Khan married Gauri on 25 October 1991 and today it has been almost 32 years since their marriage.
19 year old Shahrukh fell in love with 14 year old Gauri at first sight.
This incident happened in the year 1984. In the same year, Gauri and Shahrukh met at a common friend’s party. When 18 year old Shahrukh saw 14 year old Gauri, he fell in love with her at first sight. Gauri was dancing with another boy at that time, but Shahrukh wanted her to be in that boy’s place. He also asked Gauri about dancing. But he was refused by Gauri. Gauri even said that she is waiting for her boyfriend. This was the Panchsheel Club of Delhi where King Khan had dreamed of making Gauri his own. After this, on 25 October 1984, Shahrukh took Gauri’s phone number.
Shahrukh took Rs 1000 from his mother and set out in search of Gauri.
Shahrukh got disappointed after hearing something like this from Gauri. However, later Shahrukh came to know that Gauri had lied to him. She didn’t have any boyfriend. Shahrukh Khan started liking Gauri and gradually his liking became his true love. Shahrukh used to take the help of one of his friends to call Gauri’s house, who used to call and say that he was Shaheen. This was a code word which Gauri would understand after hearing it and then both of them would talk for hours. According to the biography written on Shahrukh Khan, one day while dropping Gauri home, King Khan proposed her for marriage. However he left without hearing the answer. In an interview given to a magazine, King Khan had told that when he was madly in love with Gauri, he did not allow her to wear a swimsuit and keep her hair open. She was afraid that some other boy might propose her. He was very positive about Gauri. Gauri Khan got upset with this behavior of Shahrukh and she went to Mumbai without telling anyone. Shahrukh had become so crazy about Gauri that he took one thousand rupees from his mother and reached Mumbai in search of her.

Shahrukh’s search is over. When Gauri saw the actor she started crying. Love started growing between the two but when they told their families, their marriage started getting hampered due to their different religions. It is even said that Gauri’s brother Vikrant Chhibber had pointed a gun at Shahrukh and threatened him to stay away from his sister. There was also a rumor that King Khan’s mother-in-law used to go to an astrologer to break the relationship between Gauri and Shahrukh. According to media reports, Shahrukh Khan had converted to Hinduism to marry Gauri and followed Hindu customs for about 5 years. After this, both of them got married on 25 October 1991. Earlier, the couple had done a court marriage and then got married on 26 August 1991. In this way he was married three times.
In an interview, Shahrukh Khan had narrated a funny incident that when his reception was going on, his family members, who were old-fashioned, were discussing whether Gauri would become a Muslim? King Khan heard this and taunted Gauri and said, “Okay Gauri, wear your burqa and let’s offer namaz now. The whole family was looking at us wondering if I have changed her religion. When people asked Shahrukh said that from now on she will wear burqa all the time, will never go out of the house and her name will be changed to Ayesha and she will remain like that.
Same love between them even after years
Even after so many years of marriage, the same love between them is still there as it was in the initial days. Both are parents of three children (Aryan, Abram, Suhana).
