World Peace Day or ‘International Peace Day’ is celebrated every year on ’21 September’. This day is considered an ideal of freedom, peace and happiness among all countries and people. ‘World Peace Day’ is mainly celebrated to establish peace and non-violence on the entire earth. Peace is loved by all. Man sacrifices most of his life in its search. But it is quite disappointing that today man is moving away from this peace day by day. Today, commercialism spread all around has taken peace even further away from the person. The earth, sky and sea are all restless. Selfishness and hatred have disintegrated human society. Although the message of ‘world peace’ has been given in every era and every period, but the number of people who have implemented it has been very less.
Starting from the year 1982 till 2001, the third Tuesday of September was chosen for ‘International Peace Day’ or ‘World Peace Day’, but from the year 2002, 21 September was declared for it. The theme of ‘World Peace Day’ of the year 2012 was – “Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future”.[1]
Establishing peace in the entire world is the main objective of the United Nations today. It is also clearly mentioned in the United Nations Charter that the UN was born to prevent international conflict and develop a culture of peace. In this era of conflict, terror and unrest, it has become extremely important and relevant to propagate the importance of peace. Therefore, the United Nations, its various institutions, non-governmental organizations, civil society and national governments organize ‘International Peace Day’ every year on 21 September. To spread the message of peace in every corner of the world, the United Nations has also appointed world-renowned personalities from the world of art, literature, cinema, music and sports as peace ambassadors. The United Nations General Assembly dedicated this day three decades ago to strengthen peaceful thoughts in all countries and their residents.
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru gave five fundamentals to establish peace and harmony in the world, these are also called the ‘Principles of Panchasheel’. These five principles, also known as ‘Panchasheel’, are the five basic principles of mutual cooperation among countries with different political, social and economic systems to establish the ideals of human welfare and world peace.[1] The following five principles are contained in it-
On the occasion of ‘World Peace Day’, white pigeons are released in every country, which in some way or the other spreads the principles of ‘Panchsheel’ to the world.[1] The tradition of flying white pigeons on the occasion of ‘World Peace Day’ is very old, but the following verse of a poet behind flying these pigeons is very thought-provoking –
Today many people believe that the biggest threat to world peace is from imperialist economic and political tactics. Developed countries create a situation of war so that their military equipment can be sold. This is a bitter truth which no one can deny. Today the military equipment industry has emerged as a big industry in the world. By spreading terrorism at different levels, developed countries sell weapons to deal with it and accumulate huge wealth through this. Experts consider the recent wars in countries like Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq as a profitable fair for the arms mafia. According to them, the countries selling military equipment are making money by creating an atmosphere of fear and terror in the world.[2]
Today every person has to understand that humanity is the greatest religion. There is no religion greater than service to human welfare. Language, culture, attire may be different, but the path to the welfare of the world is one. Man should leave the path of hatred and walk on the path of love. Accepting the importance of peace, the United Nations passed a resolution in 1982, which said that ‘World Peace Day’ will be celebrated every 21st September. In this century, seeing the unrest and violence spread in the world, it seems difficult to establish peace in recent years, but the world is based on hope and it can be hoped that soon the day will come when there will be peace everywhere.
