Entertainment News Desk – Yash Johar, the veteran filmmaker of English cinema and Karan Johar’s father, needs no introduction. He has earned a lot of name in the industry due to his excellent films. Yash Johar, who made superhit films like ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, may not be among us today. But he is still alive in the hearts of people through his films. Born on 6 September 1929 in Lahore, Yash and his family came to Delhi. After coming here, his father opened a sweet shop named ‘Nanking Sweets’.
Yash had a total of nine siblings, out of which Yash was the most educated, due to which his father made him sit at the shop. Yash did not like sitting at the shop at all, when his mother came to know about this, she said, ‘You go to Mumbai, you are not made to handle a sweet shop.’ A week before Yash Johar went to Mumbai, his mother had stolen jewelry and some money from the house. The security guard was suspected and beaten up, but Yash’s mother was trying to arrange money to send her son to Mumbai.
In Mumbai, Yash was working hard to become a photographer in a newspaper. During this time, the shooting of the film ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ was going on, on the set of which he took a picture of Madhubala. It was said about Madhubala that she did not allow anyone to take her picture, but Yash Johar was educated and could also speak English. Impressed by this, she allowed him to take the picture. Not only this, Madhubala was so impressed with Yash Johar that she even took him to her garden. After this, Yash got a job in the office. Talking about film career, Yash Johar made his first film as a producer, ‘Dostana’ with Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha.
This film of his was a hit, but after this, not many of his films were successful. That is why he used to do import-export business along with film production. After this, Yash joined Dev Anand’s production house as a co-producer. During this time he made excellent films like Guide, Jewel Thief, Prem Pujari, Hare Rama Hare Krishna. In 1977, he started his production company Dharma Productions. Yash said goodbye to this world on 26 June 2004 at the age of 74. After the death of his father, Karan Johar is running his production house.
