History News Desk !!! Dr. Zakir Hussain (English: Zakir Hussain, born: 8 February, 1897; death: May 3, 1969) was the third President of India. His President’s tenure lasted from 13 May 1967 to 3 May 1969. Dr. Zakir Hussain is the famous educationist and modern India. He was also the Governor of Bihar (tenure- 1957 to 1962) and the Vice President of India (tenure- 1962 to 1967). He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in the year 1963. In 1969, he could not complete his presidential term due to untimely death.
Life introduction
Dr. Zakir Hussain was born on 8 February 1897 AD in the Dhanadhya Pathan family of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. After some time his father came to live in Uttar Pradesh. At the age of 23, he became a member of the establishment team of ‘Jamia Millia Islamia University’. He went to the University of Berlin, Germany for a Ph.D. degree in Economics and also returned to the post of Vice Chancellor of Jamia. In 1920, he contributed to the establishment of ‘Jamia Millia Islamia’ and became its Vice Chancellor. Under his leadership, Jamia Millia Islamia was inclined towards nationalist works and freedom struggle. After achieving independence, he became the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and a ‘University Education Commission’ was also constituted under his chairmanship. Apart from this, he was also associated with the Press Commission of India, University Grants Commission, UNESCO, International Education Service and Central Board of Secondary Education. He became the Vice President of India in 1962 AD.
Scope
Dr. Zakir Hussain was the first Muslim to become the President of India. Hussein followed Gandhi’s appeal to the youth of the country. He helped in the establishment of the Muslim National University (later taken to Delhi) in Aligarh and was its Vice Chancellor from 1926 to 1948. On the invitation of Mahatma Gandhi, he also became the chairman of the National Commission for Primary Education, which was established in 1937 to create a Gandhian courses for schools. In 1948, Hussain became the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and after four years he entered the Rajya Sabha. In 1956-58 he stayed in the Executive Committee of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO). In 1957, he was appointed as the Governor of Bihar and in 1962 he was elected the Vice President of India. In 1967, he was elected to the presidency of India as the official candidate of the Congress Party and was posted until death.

Students used to run on their own desire, due to which the discipline of Jamia University started deteriorating. Seeing this, Dr. Hussain considered rectifying the students in a different way. One day he sat with brush and polish at the university door and started brushing the shoes of every visiting student. Seeing this, all the students were very ashamed. Considering his mistake, he apologized to Dr. Hussain and from the next day all the students started polishing in clean clothes and on shoes. In this way, discipline was re -established in the university.

Death
In his inaugural speech on becoming President, he said that the entire India is my home and all its residents are my family. He died on 3 May 1969. He was the first President of the country who died in his office.
