New Delhi: War continues between Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Indian Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Russia has informed India that 16 Indians serving in the Russian Army are missing. The ministry said that Indian citizens serving in the Russian Army have been requested to be sent back. It said 12 Indians serving in the Russian Army have died so far.
96 people returned to India
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “There are 126 cases (of Indian citizens serving in the Russian army). Of these 126, 96 have returned to India and have been freed from the Russian armed forces. He said, “There are still 18 Indian citizens in the Russian army, out of which the whereabouts of 16 are not known.” Jaiswal said, “Russia has kept them in the category of missing. “Those who are still in the army, we demand to be freed and sent back.”

Let us tell you that recently, an Indian citizen from Kerala was killed in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. 32-year-old Binil Babu, resident of Thrissur, Kerala, was recruited in the Russian Army and was fighting against Ukraine. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs had taken up the matter with the Russian government. The ministry had said that India has reiterated its demand to send other people from the country included in the Russian Army to India soon.

Received assurance from President Putin
Regarding this issue, in August last year, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said that he had received assurance from Russian President Vladimir Putin that any Indian citizen who is in the service of the Russian Army will be removed from the service. India’s stand on this entire matter is already clear and this issue has been raised with Russia.
