Kinshasa: A big news is coming from the African country Democratic Republic of Congo. According to reports, dozens of prisoners trying to escape from jail in the country’s capital Kinshasa have died. Giving information about the incident, the government said that at least 129 people trying to escape from Central Makala Jail in Kinshasa on Monday were killed. Giving information about this, Home Minister Shabani Luku said on Tuesday X that out of 129 deaths, 24 died in the firing.
‘Not a single prisoner escaped’
Congo’s interior minister said, “The rest of the prisoners died in the incident due to pushing or suffocation.” He said that the prison’s administrative building, its food depot and a hospital also caught fire, in which about 59 people were injured. He said in a statement issued through video, “Many people lost their lives and there was a lot of damage in the attempt to escape Makala Central Jail.” Earlier, a prison official had said that no prisoner managed to escape. He also said that those who tried to escape have been killed. The government is investigating the incident.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday
According to reports, the incident took place on Sunday at 2 am local time. Giving information about this, the prisoners in the jail said that in the morning they heard the sound of heavy firing and they could also hear the voices of the prisoners.
