Vientiane: 47 Indians in Laos were caught in a very bad job. But as always, the Indian Embassy became their savior. Embassy officials have succeeded in evacuating at least 47 Indians trapped in ‘cyber scam’ centers from the country’s Bokeo province. The Indian Embassy in the South-East Asian country gave this information on Saturday. Indian authorities are alerting citizens about fake job offers in Laos and urging them to take every precaution to avoid fraud.
Let us tell you that the Indian Mission has so far rescued 635 Indians from Laos and ensured their safe return to India. A statement from the Indian Embassy in Laos said that in the new case, the embassy rescued 47 Indians trapped in cyber scam centers in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bokeo province. The Indian Embassy statement shared on the social media platform ‘X’ said, “29 of these were handed over to the embassy by the Lao authorities after action on illegal activities in the Golden Triangle SEZ, while the other 18 contacted the embassy about being in trouble. “It said that embassy officials went to Bokeo from the capital Vientiane to contact the local authorities.
The embassy arranged for the return of Indians, 30 returned
The statement said that Indian Ambassador to Laos Prashant Agarwal met the group on their arrival and discussed the challenges they were facing and advised them on the next steps. It said that the embassy has completed all the procedural requirements for their return to India in consultation with the Lao authorities. It also said that 30 of these people have already returned to India safely or are on their way. It said that the travel procedures of the remaining 17 others are being completed and they will also return home soon.
Smuggling of Indian citizens
The statement said that Agarwal stressed that ‘ensuring the safety and well-being’ of Indians is the top priority of the embassy. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed the issue of smuggling of Indian citizens with Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone during his visit to the Southeast Asian country last month. The Indian Embassy in Laos rescued 13 Indians last month and sent them back home. In a statement issued on Saturday, the Indian Embassy urged the Laos government to take action against anti-social elements involved in operating cyber scam centers. (Language)
