Under a bilateral agreement between India and Israel in November 2023, a total of 6,774 Indian workers have been sent for work in Israel by 1 July 2025. This information was given by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
The agreement was reached after the Israeli-Hamas War began. The minister said that an Indian agricultural laborer died in a Lebanon attack in March 2024. In addition, three other Indian citizens were injured in a rocket attack from Gaza on 7 October 2023 and on March 2, 2024, in Lebanon attack. The government said that the safety and welfare of Indian citizens living abroad, especially workers, is its top priority.
Since 2022, there was a conversation between India and Israel to work in Israel for Indians in a safe, systematic and legitimate manner. This resulted in the agreement and implementation protocol in November 2023. According to the government, out of a total of 6,774 Indian workers, 6,730 people have been appointed as the construction sector and 44 people as Careful. Apart from this, around 7,000 Karegivers and 6,400 construction workers have been recruited in Israel through private channels.
About 220 of these people returned to India mainly due to lack of skill and language problems. The Indian Embassy is constantly in touch with the Indian community there, performs regular consular visits and is ensuring the safety, treatment and compensation of workers in association with Israeli officials.
