British PM Keir Starmer and US President Joe Biden.
Washington: US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are scheduled to have a major meeting in Washington next week. The main agenda of this meeting will be the Russia-Ukraine war. However, apart from the Ukraine war, many other issues including the Gaza conflict are likely to be discussed during this time. Starmer is visiting America at a time when Biden is trying to increase his activism on the international stage in the last months of his tenure.
White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre said in a statement that the meeting to be held in the Oval Office (President’s Office) will focus on continuing Western support for Ukraine as it tries to stop Russia’s aggression. According to Jean-Pierre, the meeting will also discuss a hostage agreement and ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, protecting commercial ships in the Gulf from attacks by Iran-backed Houthi fighters, and common concerns in the Indo-Pacific region.
Keir Starmer visits Washington for second time in 2 months
Keir Stormer is visiting Washington for the second time in the last 2 months. Earlier in July, he visited Washington to attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit. During this, he also had bilateral talks with Biden. Now he will hold important talks on the Israel-Hamas war and other issues including the Russia-Ukraine war. This dialogue is going to take place at a time when Ukraine is attacking Moscow by entering inside Russia and on the other hand Israel has almost completed its campaign in Gaza. (AP)
