Taipei: At least 9 people have died after a massive fire broke out in an under-construction building in Taiwan. The death toll may increase further. The accident occurred on Thursday at a building under construction in central Taiwan. Nine people have been confirmed dead due to a massive fire in the building. Videos posted on social media showed a large plume of smoke and flames rising from one end of a five-story building in Taichung city. After the fire, there was chaos and stampede among the people.

Fire brigade reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. According to Taiwanese officials, the cause of the fire is not yet known, but the Taichung government said that the fire spread rapidly due to the large amount of foam panels at the site. According to Taiwanese media, a person jumped from the third floor to save his life.
