Dhaka: Students who played an important role in the movement in Bangladesh last year have now become powerful in power. Bangladeshi students have now announced to form a new political party in the country under their leadership. Due to this agitation of students, in August 2024, the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government was overthrown. Manik Mia Avenue of Central Dhaka has a major platform for the introduction of ‘Ethnic Citizen Party’ or National Citizen Party (NCP), headed by prominent leaders of the anti -discrimination student movement, also known as students Against Description (SAD).

The student movement led the mass rebellion, resulting in Hasina’s rule over 15 years on August 5 last year. Three days after the development, Muhammad Yunus took over as the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, who was effectively Prime Minister. NCP leaders said that they hope that about three lakh people including students will come from across the country. A spokesperson for the new party media cell said, “The family members of the people who gave their lives in the mass of July-August will attend our inauguration ceremony.” He said, “We have also invited leaders of major political parties.”

New party will be formed with the support of Mohammad Yunus

Mohammad Yunus, who plays the role of a caretaker in the government of Bangladesh, has an important role in the formation of the students’ political party. The new party is being started with the support of Yunus, who held the post of Chief Advisor as SAD candidate in August 2024. NCP leaders said that Younus is also invited to their establishment ceremony. Other high-level invited personalities include Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) President and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia; His son and caretaker BNP President Tariq Rahman; BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; Amir Shafiqur Rahman of Jamaat-e-Islami and many Islamic, right-wing and leftist parties and groups are included.
