Earth trembled due to earthquake in Taiwan
Beijing: An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 struck Dingri County in Shigaze, Tibet Autonomous Region of China on Monday night. The earthquake struck the area around the holy city of Shigaze at 8:58 pm local time, according to the China Earthquake Network Center (CENC). A 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the same region on January 8, killing 126 people and injuring 188 others. China has started large-scale relief and rescue operations in the area. State news agency Xinhua quoted CENC as saying that Monday’s earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. The region was hit by more than 640 aftershocks after the January 8 earthquake.
Strong earthquake hits Japan, tsunami warning
An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck the Kyushu region of southwestern Japan on Monday, the Associated Press reported, citing Japan’s meteorological agency. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake struck Miyazaki Prefecture at 9:19 p.m. (local time), and the quake’s intensity ranged from 0 to 7 on the Japanese scale in the hardest-hit areas, NHK reported. Authorities issued tsunami warnings for several areas but there were no reports of any damage or casualties.
Even before this, there was a strong earthquake in Japan
According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the earthquake was located at a depth of 37 km. Let us tell you that on August 8 last year, two powerful earthquakes of 6.9 and 7.1 magnitude occurred in Japan, shaking the south-western islands of Kyushu and Shikoku. Earlier on January 1, 2024, a massive earthquake of 7.6 magnitude occurred in Suzu, Wajima and surrounding areas of Japan, in which more than 300 people were killed.
