Russia has registered an unprecedented 570% increase in the number of tourists coming from Saudi Arabia in 2024. The main credit for this rapid increase is being given to smooth implementation of the e-visa system.
A look at the figures:
In 2023, only 9,300 Saudi citizens visited Russia.
In 2024, this number increased to 52,400 – an increase of about six times.
More than 9,900 Saudi tourists have reached Moscow in the first half of 2025, which is 50% more than the same period of 2024.
E-greasy game-changer
The e-visa system launched in August 2023 made the travel process extremely simple. According to this:
Saudi citizens can apply online
An embassy does not require an appointment or long paper process
Under this policy, Russia has so far issued more than 80,000 e-visas to Saudi citizens, which has emerged as a major tourist source for Saudi Arabia Russia. By mid-2025, Russia issued over 80,000 e-vises to Saudi citizens, making Saudi Arabia the second largest country after China in this case.
Russian tourism authorities have described the Saudi market as one of the most likely emerging areas. A tourist board representative said that Saudi tourists’ spending ability is strong and they are showing constant interest in Russian culture and natural sites. The facility of direct flights from Riyadh, Jeddah and Damam to Moscow has made the journey towards Russia even easier and accessible. Along with this, the campaign of Russian tourism agencies at the Travel Expo held in Gulf countries has also increased Russia’s popularity among Saudi citizens.
According to a Riyadh -based travel agent, Russia has now become a favorite summer destination for Saudi families and youth, who want some new and refreshed experience rather than traditional European sites.
