Islamabad: A Pakistani court on Monday postponed its verdict till January 13 against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. According to Geo News, anti-corruption court judge Nasir Javed Rana had completed the hearing on December 18 and reserved the verdict till December 23. Later he fixed January 6 as the new date for pronouncing the verdict. Judge Rana was on leave on Monday and court staff said the verdict would now be pronounced on January 13.

Also know

The court also informed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor and Imran’s lawyer about the postponement of the verdict. The postponement comes at a time when talks are underway between the government and Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to end political instability in the country due to the imprisonment of the former prime minister and several other leaders. Two rounds of talks have taken place so far and another round of talks is expected this week.

The case was registered in December 2023

The National Accountability Bureau had filed a case against Khan (72), Bibi (50) and six others in December 2023, accusing them of causing a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer. Khan and Bibi were prosecuted in this case because all the other accused, including the real estate businessman, are out of the country. (Language)
