Tesla and SpaceX CEO Alan Musk resigned from the post after his 130 -day term as the head of the ‘Government Efficiency’ (DOGE) in the administration of US President Donald Trump. However, he has clarified that he will continue his role as President Trump’s “friend and advisor”.
At a press conference held at the Oval Office of the White House on 30 May 2025, Musk formally bid farewell to his post. On the occasion, President Trump presented a special gold key to Musk for his contribution, which is given to “very special people”. Trump praised Musk, saying that he has played an important role in cutting government expenses and increasing efficiency.
Musk claimed a savings of $ 160 billion in government expenses during his tenure, although his original target was to save $ 2 trillion. He said that he would now focus on his businesses, especially Tesla and SpaceX, but is committed to continue the DOGE mission.
Musk also clarified that he would be associated with President Trump as a consultant and from time to time visit the White House. He said, “I hope that whenever the President wants, I will keep advising him.”
In this program, Musk wore a black cap and jacket, on which ‘The Dogefather’ was written, and had a bruise on his right eye. When asked about this, he laughed and said that it happened while playing with his five-year-old son X æ A-12, when he jokingly told the son to punch him on his face.
Although Musk has quit the official post, many members of his team will continue to work under DOGE, and it is clear from Musk’s advisory role that he will remain impressive in Trump administration.
