America banned its personnel from having romantic, sexual relations with Chinese citizens (symbolic photo)
Washington: The US government has banned any kind of romantic or sexual relationship with US government employees in China, as well as family members and security sanctioned contractors with Chinese citizens. ‘Associated Press’ (AP) has received information about this.
Nicholas Burns implemented policy
Four people aware of the case told AP about the policy on the condition of anonymity, which was implemented by US Ambassador Nicolas Burns in January shortly before leaving China. Some American agencies have already put strict rules regarding such relationships. However, it is not uncommon for American diplomats in other countries to ‘dating’ and even marry them.
‘Ban on having romantic and sexual relations’
Last year, this policy was implemented in a limited form in summer, under which American personnel were banned to have a ‘romantic and sexual relationship’ with Chinese citizens working as guards and other assistant employees in the US embassy and five consulates in China.

The scope of the new policy incorporates American missions in the mainland China, including the embassy in Beijing and the American consulates in the semi-associated region of Hong Kong along with the consulates in Guangzhu, Shanghai, Shenyang and Wuhan. This is not applicable to American personnel stationed outside China. (AP)
