The American Senate has approved the appointment of ‘real estate’ businessman Charles Kushner as an ambassador to France. Kushner is the father of Jared Kushner, son -in -law of President Donald Trump.
Charles Kushner, who was convicted years ago for illegally donating during tax evasion and election campaign, was forgiven by Trump in December 2020.
Kushner cast 51 votes against 45. He is the founder of the ‘Real Estate’ firm named ‘Kushner Companies’. His son has been a senior advisor to the ‘White House’ (official residence and office of the US President) during the former term of Jared Trump. Jared Kushner is married to Trump’s eldest daughter Ivanka.
Trump described him as “a skilled businessman, philanthropist and a person specializing in deal” while announcing his intention to nominate Charles Kushner in November last year.
Charles Kushner will go to France as the relationship between the two traditional colleagues and between the US and the rest Europe has become tense due to Trump’s trade policies and the role of America in Ukraine War.
During the hearing in the Senate to confirm his name earlier this month, Kushner said that he would work with France to bring more balance in the important economic relations of the two countries and he would encourage France to invest more in the defense sector.
