In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a man convicted of killing a Sudanese boy in a road accident in 2012 was released from jail by paying a compensation of Rs 1 crore to NRI businessman M A Yusuf Ali. 45-year-old Bex Krishnan, a resident of Kerala, hit a group of children while driving recklessly in September 2012. Krishnan was given the death sentence by the UAE Supreme Court after being found guilty of killing a Sudanese boy.
Since then, Krishnan’s family and friends were trying to get him released, but they could not do so because the victim’s family has returned to their country Sudan, due to which they could not convince them to pardon. After this, Krishnan’s family contacted Yusuf Ali, the chairman of Lulu Group, who got all the information of the case and talked to all the parties. Lulu Group said in a statement that the victim’s family finally agreed to pardon Krishnan in January 2021. After this, Yusuf Ali paid five lakh dirhams (about one crore rupees) compensation to the court for Krishnan’s release.
This is rebirth for me: Krishnan
In a statement, Krishnan was quoted as saying that this is a rebirth for me, as I had given up all hopes of seeing the outside world and living a free life. Now my only wish is to meet Yusuf Ali before going to meet my family. Yusuf Ali thanked God and the generosity of the far-sighted rulers of the United Arab Emirates for Krishnan’s release. He wished Krishnan a happy and peaceful life.
