Dussehra celebration in Nepal.
Kathmandu: The festival of Vijayadashami is being celebrated with great pomp today in India as well as in Nepal. Nepal’s President Ramchandra Paudel and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli have greeted the people on the occasion of Vijayadashami. Also appealed to them to help the people affected by the recent disasters to return to normalcy. The President wished peace, prosperity and happiness for all Nepalese on the tenth day of ‘Dasai’, the biggest Hindu festival in Nepal. The Prime Minister also wished for cooperation and harmony among all citizens. Here in India too, Dussehra is celebrated today. PM Modi and President Draupadi Murmu have wished the countrymen on the festival of victory of truth over untruth.
In a statement, Oli appealed to all Nepalis to provide personal help to the disaster affected people to return to normalcy. He assured the people of necessary assistance from the government to those who narrowly escaped the disaster. Recently, due to torrential rains, many parts of Nepal were hit by floods and landslides, resulting in the loss of 240 lives and thousands of others displaced. Vijaya Dashami started on October 3. It is known here as Dasai. On the first day, Kalash was established, known as Ghatasthapana and barley seeds were sown which is called ‘Jamra’.
Huge celebration of Dahshahr in Nepal
There is great celebration of Dussehra in Nepal. The festival continues till the Kojagrita (Kojgara) full moon, which is on October 17 this year. Every year many people working in the Kathmandu Valley return to their homes for Dasain. The ‘Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneurs’ had initially estimated that about 18 lakh passengers from the valley would go to their homes by road. Kathmandu Post newspaper quoted Federation President Bijay Swar as saying that only 13 lakh people have gone to their homes since the first day of the festival. He said, “The reason for the low number of passengers is the damage to the roads due to floods and landslides following heavy rains on September 27 and 28. (Language)
