Leaders of the international community arriving to attend the Arab League Conference of Baghdad.
Baghdad: The annual summit of the Arab League has started in Baghdad on Saturday, in which the regional leaders of the Middle East have once again gathered to discuss the burning issues like Gaza war. The conference is likely to have serious discussions on the recent Israel-Hamas struggle and human crisis in Gaza. This conference is being held at a time when the Israeli army has killed at least 108 Palestinians in Gaza in the last 48 hours.
Discussion possible again on Gaza’s reconstruction
Earlier in March, at the Emergency Arab Summit held in Cairo in March, the leaders clarified that they support the plan to rebuild the dislocation in the Gaza Strip without any forced displacement. Many countries objected to the possibility of displacement of about 2 million population of Gaza. Tension and violence in the region have increased since Israeli broke the ceasefire with Hamas in January. In the past weeks, there has been a huge increase in the intensity and inconvenience of the Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.
Netanyahu said-We will attack and fast
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made a statement that he will intensify the use of force to “destroy” Hamas completely. Netanyahu says that he will take back his steps only after eliminating Hamas terrorists.
Trump’s sudden travel and new discussions
Just before this summit, US President Donald Trump’s regional visit influenced the tone of the conference. Although it was expected that Trump would bring a new initiative on the Gaza ceasefire, no such agreement could be reached. However, Trump made headlines by assuring Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shra to lift the US sanctions on Syria. This meeting was also in controversy. Because Al-Shara, formerly known as Abu Mohammad al-Golani, met al-Qaeda rebels after the US invasion in Iraq in 2003. Al-Shara is still allegations of terrorism in Iraq and the warrant is going on for their arrest.
Regional balance and international diplomacy
For many countries participating in this conference in Baghdad, this platform is an opportunity to take a united stance on Gaza’s situation, Israel’s military policy and America’s role. It is believed that resolutions can also be passed on issues such as human aid, peace process, and joint strategy against terrorism. (AP)
