The military contingent sent to the border with Burkina Faso in western Nigeria for action against cattle smugglers was ambushed by armed attackers in which at least 10 soldiers were killed. The military government of Nigeria gave this information.
The army issued a statement on Wednesday night saying that the military contingent was deployed on Monday to catch cattle smugglers in Takjat village. “During the campaign, a group of criminals ambushed the security forces and attacked the security forces in which 10 of our soldiers were killed.”
The statement said that the attackers escaped but the army caught 15 “terrorists” and killed them on Tuesday. Nigeria and neighboring countries Burkina Faso, Mali have been struggling with the rebellion of jihadi groups for more than a decade.
Some groups are associated with terrorist organizations al-Qaeda and Islamic State. All three countries have military governments and have sent back the French soldiers handling security. The three countries have pledged to strengthen mutual cooperation by establishing a new security alliance.
