Sao Paulo: At least two people were killed and dozens are reported missing after a bridge connecting two northern Brazilian states collapsed. Police gave information about this on Monday. The rescue operation has been complicated by the leakage of sulfuric acid. Footage obtained by local residents showed that when cars and trucks were crossing the ‘Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira’ bridge on Sunday, a large part of the bridge fell into the river.

Police started investigation

Police working on the border with the northern states of Maranhao and Tocantins said eight vehicles were missing, including four trucks, two cars and two motorcycles. Police and Brazil’s road department said they have launched an investigation into the matter.

Plane crash in Brazil

Earlier on Sunday, a small plane had crashed in Gramado city of Brazil on Sunday. 10 passengers and crew members were killed in this accident. More than a dozen people present on the ground were injured during the plane crash and have been admitted to the hospital. The reasons for the accident have not been known yet.

41 people died in a road accident

Before the plane crash, a bus full of passengers was fatally hit by a truck in south-eastern Brazil on Saturday. This accident happened on a national highway in Minas Gerais state of south-eastern Brazil. In this accident, 22 people died on the spot, while many people were injured. After the accident, the death toll increased to 30, then 38 and then 41. (AP)
