At least six people are expected to be killed by a tourist submarine drowning in the Red Sea of ​​Egypt. According to the BBC, on the morning of 27 March, many people were injured and 29 others were rescued in the incident near Egyptian city of Herghada.

According to the Embassy of Moscow in Egypt, there were about 40 passengers in the submarine and all Russians are said to be. According to the BBC report, the boat called Sindabad drowned near the port. The local governor’s office in Herghada told Reuters that six foreigners were killed in a submarine accident in the Red Sea, whose nationality is unknown.

The Russian Embassy in Egypt said that all the tourists in the submarine were Russian. In a post on Facebook, it said that there were 45 passengers on the ship, including children. The post states that four people have died, and they are waiting for information about many more passengers. The post states that the incident took place at a distance of about 0.6 meters (1 km) from the coast at around 10:00 pm local time.

This is not the first incident related to tourist boats in Herghada and Red Sea. In November 2024, a tourist boat called C Story was submerged, killing 11 people killed or missing – including a British couple – and 35 people survived. At that time, Egyptian officials blamed a huge wave of up to 4 meters for this disaster.
