Karachi: Abdul Latif Baloch, a senior journalist Abdul Latif Baloch, was shot dead on Saturday in Pakistan’s disturbed Balochistan province. The incident occurred when he opposed the attempt to kidnap. According to police officials, Abdul Latif Baloch was working in the ‘Daily Intikab’ newspaper at Quetta and was reporting on local issues for a long time.
Killed by entering the house
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Danial Kakar said that on Saturday, some unknown gunmen entered the house of Baloch and tried to forcibly lift them. When the journalist opposed this, the attackers shot him on the spot and escaped. “Abdul Latif Baloch opposed the kidnappers, due to which he was shot,”. Police say that the attackers could not be identified and no arrests were made in the case till Sunday morning. Investigation is on and evidence is being collected from the scene.
The first son was also targeted
This is not the first time the Baloch family has been targeted. A few months ago, the elder son of Abdul Latif Baluch was kidnapped, and his body was later recovered. Now the family is in deep shock due to the murder of the journalist himself.
A sharp response of journalist organizations
Several media and human rights organizations, including Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), have strongly condemned the murder of Abdul Latif Baloch. He has demanded from the government to provide security to journalists and the attackers should be arrested soon. “This is an attack on freedom of expression and the government should take drastic steps on it.” – PFUJ statement
