PM Modi after visiting Sri Lankan Buddhist temple with President Anura Kumara.
Colombo: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Jai Sri Mahabodhi Temple in the historic city of Anuradhapura before leaving Sri Lanka on Sunday. Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake was also present along with PM Modi. Modi was accompanied by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Disanayake during his visit to Anuradhapura. During this, PM Modi also shot a photo with Buddhist followers and religious leaders.
Please tell that Anuradhapura is a spiritual city located about 200 kilometers from Colombo. The Prime Minister also took blessings from the major monk in the temple. Modi said in a post on social media, “The President prayed with Disanayake at Jai Sri Mahabodhi in Anuradhapura. It is a moment of darshan to visit this temple included in the most prestigious places of Buddhism.” He said, “This is a lively symbol of peace, knowledge and spiritual continuity. The teachings of Lord Buddha always keep guiding us.”
What is the importance of Mahabodhi temple
Jai Shri Mahabodhi Temple has special significance in India-Sri Lanka civilian relations. It is believed that the Bodhi tree originated in Bodh Gaya, India. Emperor Ashoka’s daughter Thery Sanghamitra brought a plant of Bodhi tree from India and that plant was planted in the premises of this temple. During the visit to Anuradhapura, Modi and Disanayake also inaugurated two railway projects aided from India. The Prime Minister reached Colombo on Friday evening after ending his visit to Thailand.
