Dhaka: The biggest news is coming out from Bangladesh at this time. The International Criminal Tribunal has recently issued an arrest warrant against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for alleged crimes against humanity during the massive student protests. In this case, arrest warrant has been issued on Thursday against 45 people including Hasina and other top Awami League leaders. As soon as this news reached, there was a stir in Hasina’s camp.
Let us tell you that quoting Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, ‘Daily Star’ in its news said that the tribunal headed by Justice Mohammad Ghulam Murtaza Majumdar passed this order. The prosecution had filed two petitions in the tribunal in this regard and had appealed to issue arrest warrant against him.
Order for arrest and production till 18th November
It is being told that in this case, the tribunal also directed the concerned officials to arrest Hasina and 46 others and present them before it by November 18. In August, Bangladesh’s interim government said it would prosecute at the International Criminal Tribunal those involved in killings during the recent mass student protests against the Hasina-led government. More than 230 people were killed in the violence that broke out in Bangladesh after the ouster of Hasina government. There were widespread protests by students in July against the controversial reservation system in government jobs. (Language)
