Election In Bangladesh: The interim government is ruling Bangladesh after the Sheikh Hasina government was ousted from power. The head of this interim government is Mohammad Yunus. Since assuming power, there has been a demand from the interim government to announce the election dates. Now amidst increasing pressure, Mohammad Yunus has said that elections will be held in late 2025 or early 2026.

Yunus has talked about reform

According to the report of Dhaka Tribune, major political parties including BNP headed by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia want elections in the country soon. Despite criticism and opposition, Yunus has not announced the election dates but has only talked about scheduling. Regarding election dates, Yunus said that he has repeatedly appealed to everyone to hold elections after completing major reforms.

What else did Mohammad Yunus say?

Mohammad Yunus said that if political consensus is reached, with minor reforms, errors can be removed from the voter list, then it may be possible to hold elections by the end of 2025. He said that if we work on the required level of reforms in the election process and agree to the recommendations of the Election Reforms Commission, then it may take at least six more months.

This is how elections are held in Bangladesh

Meanwhile, let us also tell here that the electoral process in Bangladesh is similar to the Lok Sabha elections in India. Here the election of members of Parliament is done in the same manner as in India. That means the candidate who gets even one more vote will win. After the election results are declared, the MPs of the largest party or alliance elect their leader and he becomes the Prime Minister. There are a total of 350 seats in the Parliament here. Of these, 50 seats are reserved for women. There are no elections for reserved seats, whereas general elections are held every five years for 300 seats.
