Athens: A tragic accident has occurred in the south of Crete island in Greece. Five people died and many are missing when the boat carrying refugees sank here. The Coast Guard said more than 200 people have been rescued in four search and rescue operations. According to the Coast Guard, three of the four operations have been stopped but one is still ongoing.
A large number of people were rescued
The operations were launched after reports of separate incidents of boat capsizing near the island of Gavdos, south of Crete. A fourth campaign, which is still ongoing, has been launched in the southern Peloponnese region. The coast guard said 39 people were rescued during the search operation and have been taken to Crete. During this period, five dead bodies were also recovered from the water area. The people who were rescued safely said that there were a large number of people in their boat.
Help of helicopter is being taken in rescue operations
The Coast Guard said that a total of nine ships are engaged in the rescue work and the help of two helicopters is also being taken in the rescue work. Two other operations off the coast of Gavdos rescued 47 and 89 people respectively. These campaigns have been completed. At the same time, 28 refugees have been rescued from Peloponnese.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that such a boat accident has happened in Greece, accidents have happened here before also. In the month of November this year, eight people, including six children, died when a boat sank in the sea near the island of Samos in Greece.
