The two leaders today met on the sidelines of the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) leaders in Tianjin. Earlier, the two leaders met in 2024 on the sides of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia.
In July this year, Prime Minister Modi said in his address at the BRICS group summit at Rio de Janeiro that India would try to give a “new look” to BRICS next year.
Prime Minister Modi said that BRICS would mean creating flexibility and innovation for cooperation and stability, and just as India had given priority to the issues of global South on the agenda during the presiding G20, similarly during the chairmanship of BRICS, he will take this platform ahead of public concentrated and humanity first.
The theme of the 17th BRICS summit was “strengthening global South cooperation for more inclusive and sustainable governance”. Xi Jinping attended this summit by virtual medium.
Committings were adopted in strategic fields including global rule, finance, health, artificial intelligence, climate change, peace and security.
In addition to the main announcement, BRICS leaders approved three supplementary outlines- outline declaration of BRICS leaders on climate finance, announcing BRICS leaders on global rule of artificial intelligence and BRICS partnership for eradication of socially determined diseases.
Leaders on Climate Finance are the first collective BRICS commitment of its kind under the outline manifesto, the United Nations Climate Change Fundament Conference (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement. The manifesto proposes to raise US $ 300 billion annually for climate -related investments by 2035, and emphasized that funding is “accessible, timely and concessional”.
The Rio-D-Jenoio summit announced the establishment of the BRICS Climate Research Forum to make the data consistent, share the best practices and to carry forward the joint modeling.

Cai reiterated the desire of the Chinese side to increase bilateral exchange and improve the relationship as per the consent between the two leaders.
