Israel and Hezbollah War
London: Britain has joined the US and other European countries in calling for an immediate ceasefire between Lebanon’s terror group Hezbollah and Israel. Britain has warned that the conflict in the region currently risks escalating into a full-blown war. In a statement during the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy condemned Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel over the past 11 months and reiterated that these attacks cannot be justified and have caused misery for ordinary people in Lebanon and Israel.
‘The situation is dangerous’
In a message to Iran, Lamy said that supplying weapons to terrorist organizations in violation of the United Nations cannot be justified in any way. He urged Tehran to use its influence on Hezbollah to persuade it to agree to a ceasefire agreement. Lamy said, “This is the most dangerous moment. We are on the brink. The situation is dangerous. A few minutes before midnight. We talk about the threat of a full-fledged war at the regional level, but the truth is that we are already seeing conflict on many fronts.”
‘War is not in the interest of Israel or the Lebanese people’
Lamy said, “All-out war is not in the interest of Israel or the Lebanese people and that is why within hours of last week’s attacks, I called for an immediate ceasefire between Lebanese Hezbollah and Israel. Since then we have worked closely with the US and France to formalise a comprehensive ceasefire demand and a political plan to implement it. At the United Nations in New York, Prime Minister Keir Starmer and I have been urging other partners, including the G7, to do the same.”

‘British citizens must leave Lebanon’
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also said in the Security Council meeting that the situation in Lebanon has become hellish. Meanwhile, Starmer has once again called upon British citizens to leave Lebanon now. FCDO has said that it is giving 5 million British pounds to Lebanon for humanitarian aid where UNICEF will supply essential items to the needy people. After this, 700 soldiers along with Border Force and Foreign Office officials are being deployed in Cyprus to continue contingency planning in view of various situations in the region. The ‘Royal Air Force’ has also kept its aircraft and transport helicopters ready to assist if needed. Britain considers Hezbollah a terrorist organization. (Language)
