Britain’s 2025 strategic defense review has accepted India’s role on the global stage and its importance in the Indian Ocean region. This review has committed to develop bilateral defense relations with India, especially in the Indian Ocean region.
This defense review was launched by British Prime Minister Care Starmer to power in July 2024, which aims to formulate a defense strategy for the next ten years. The review has identified China as a major challenge, which is trying to establish dominance using its economic, technical and military capabilities in the Indo-Pacific sector.
The review stated, “The UK will continue to develop bilateral defense relations, especially in various fields of shared interests, in various areas of shared interests,, in various areas of shared interests,” the review will continue to develop bilateral defense relations. “
The UK-India defense partnership, announced in February 2025, is considered an important next step in bilateral defense cooperation, focused on the next generation of weapons in the important region of air defense.
The review briefly mentioned relations with Pakistan, described as “historic” and “sharing focus on security objectives”.
This defense review is an important initiative towards strengthening defense and safety cooperation under the 2030 vision between India and Britain, including cooperation to deal with cyber, space, crime and terrorist threats, development of an independent, open and safe Indo-Pacific sector, development and joint exercise, and development of new abilities and technologies in the defense industry.
