Apollo Quiboloy Arrested: Police arrested Apollo Quiboloy late Sunday night in southern Philippines. Quiboloy calls himself the “Son of God” and is a pastor of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) Church. Police managed to arrest Quiboloy after an extensive search that lasted more than two weeks. Former Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte and millions of people around the world are followers of Apollo Quiboloy. 74-year-old Quiboloy is accused of child trafficking, sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

The organization grew rapidly

Apollo Quiboloy was born in the southern Philippines. Quiboloy founded the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), a small religious organization, in 1985. The organization grew rapidly, gaining millions of followers in the Philippines and more than 200 countries. According to the New York Times, KOJC, which blends elements of Pentecostal Christianity with Quiboloy’s self-proclaimed divine status, quickly became a major force in the Philippines.

The campus was built on 75 acres

Known as former President Rodrigo Duterte’s “spiritual adviser,” Quiboloy wielded enormous influence over local and national politicians. His ability to bring out large voting blocs earned him a reputation as a spiritual kingmaker. Many saw his support as essential to winning elections, especially in Davao City, where he built a sprawling 75-acre compound called “New Jerusalem.”

Exploitation of women and children

However, according to US and Philippine law enforcement agencies, there was a dark truth behind Quiboloy’s spiritual empire. His influence was not just political, but also allegedly involved the systematic abuse and exploitation of vulnerable women and children who were forced into lives of slavery under the guise of faith.

what was night duty

In 2021, Quiboloy was indicted by the US on charges of sex trafficking, sexual exploitation, conspiracy, and forced labor. Some of Quiboloy’s alleged victims, as young as 12, were recruited as personal assistants to the “pastor” who were expected to cater to his every need, including sexual favors, which Quiboloy called night duty. The indictment claims that the young women were forced to write “commitment letters” in which they dedicated their lives and bodies to Quiboloy.

The church had international reach

Quiboloy’s alleged abuses were not limited to the Philippines. His church had an international reach. US prosecutors revealed that his operations included the trafficking of women and children. According to the FBI, church members were sent to the United States on fraudulently obtained visas. There, they were forced to solicit donations for a supposed children’s charity called the “Children’s Joy Foundation.” However, those donations never reached the underprivileged children. Instead, the money was used by Quiboloy and others in the church to pay for their expensive needs.

This is how it got exposed

In the Philippines, Quiboloy continued to campaign from his Davao City headquarters and exert influence over local government officials. Despite being placed on the FBI’s Most Wanted List in 2021, he remained largely untouched, protected by his powerful political allies, including Duterte. The whole game came to light when Philippine authorities, along with the military, raided the Davao City campus of the KOJC. After raiding Apollo Quiboloy’s premises, the police found items that showed that women were kept captive and subjected to immoral acts.
