Three alleged accused in Nijjar murder case
Ottawa: The Supreme Court of Canada on Thursday granted bail to four Indians arrested in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. According to the report, the release order was issued due to lack of evidence after the proceedings were stayed in the lower court. Now this case will be heard in the Canadian court on February 11. Four Indian nationals, Karan Brar, Amandeep Singh, Kamalpreet Singh and Karanpreet Singh, are facing charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in Nijjar’s murder case.
Canada accused India
Pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed in Surrey, British Columbia in June 2023. The case made international headlines when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that the Indian government was involved in Nijjar’s murder. India rejected this claim as baseless. India demanded evidence from Canada, which Canadian agencies have not been able to provide till date.
Indians were arrested
In May 2024, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested four Indians from different locations in Canada and claimed their involvement in the murder. However, the prosecution faced criticism for delays in presenting evidence during the preliminary hearing.
Bail application was filed in the court
The Canadian police could not present any concrete evidence against the accused. The charge sheet was filed against the four Indians in November 2024. He had filed an application for bail in the Supreme Court of Canada, which was later accepted. According to court documents, three accused appeared for the hearing through video conferencing, while one had his lawyer present.
