A proud moment for Kannadigas came when Canadian MP Chandra Arya officially entered the race to become the next Prime Minister of Canada, speaking in Kannada after his nomination.
Arya, who represents Ottawa’s Nepean, made the announcement while taking pride in his Kannada heritage. “It is a proud moment for around 5 crore Kannadigas that a person from Shira taluk of Tumkur district of Karnataka has been elected as an MP in Canada and is now speaking in Kannada in this prestigious institution,” he said.
Concluding his speech, Arya honored the legacy of Kannada national poet Rashtrakavi Kuvempu and quoted a line from the famous song sung by veteran actor Dr Rajkumar. He said, “Wherever you live, howsoever you live, always remain a Kannadiga. Kannada is the truth, Kannada is eternal.” Arya valued his identity no matter where he lived in the world and pride in being a Kannadiga.
The announcement of Arya’s candidature, made before the Liberal Party meeting, was a proud moment for the Kannadiga community. It reflects his connection to his roots and his commitment to taking on this important political challenge in Canada.
“I am running to become the next Prime Minister of Canada to create a smaller, more efficient government that rebuilds our country and ensures prosperity for future generations,” Arya said in his social media post.
He said Canada faces “serious structural problems the likes of which have not been seen for generations.” Solving these problems requires taking difficult decisions. “For the sake of our children and grandchildren, we have to take the bold decisions that are absolutely necessary,” Arya said.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) reported that Arya wants to lead a smaller and more effective government in which “cabinet is selected based on skills, not (diversity, equity and inclusion) quotas.”
