Case filed against 19 people including Sheikh Hasina’s son Joy: 19 people including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajib Wajed Joy, Awami League leader and former Minister of State for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak have been accused of National Identity Card (NID) data leak. . A case has been registered against all of them at Kafrul Police Station.
According to Bangladesh’s leading newspaper Dhaka Tribune, Joy and others are accused of allegedly facilitating the sale of NID information through an organized syndicate.
It is alleged that Joy and others allowed Digicon to use the NID information for commercial transactions. Enamul Haq, 39, lodged a case under the Cyber Security Act at Kafrul Police Station in Dhaka early on Wednesday. Kazi Golam Mustafa, officer in charge of Kafrul police station, has confirmed this.
According to the police, the complainant has alleged that Sajeeb Wajed Joy and Junaid Ahmed Palak misused their powers to facilitate the sale of NID information through a syndicate.
The accused allowed Digicon Global Services Limited to use NID information for business transactions with various organizations, compromising national and personal security.
This sensitive information was sold to approximately 182 organizations. About Rs 20,000 crore was raised from this sale. It is noteworthy that Junaid Ahmed Palak has been arrested in many cases. Presently he is being taken on police remand in connection with several other cases.
