Census conducted in Iraq after 40 years
Preliminary results of the national census conducted in Iraq after almost 40 years show that the country’s population has increased to 45.4 million. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said on Monday that preliminary results showed the country’s population had reached about 45.4 million. An unofficial census in 2009 estimated the country’s population to be approximately 3.16 crore.
Census was conducted in 1987
According to preliminary results on Monday, the gender ratio is almost equal, with men making up 50.1 percent of the population and women making up 49.8 percent of the population. The last nationwide census in Iraq was conducted in 1987. Another census in 1997 did not include the Kurdish region.
This census prepares the road map of development
Government minister Mohammad Tamim said, ‘The new census prepares a road map of development for the future and gives a message of stability.’ Officials say that this census is for the first time, in which data is collected and analyzed. Advanced technologies have been used.
