India and US Relations
WASHINGTON: A top US diplomat has said that China and Russia are concerned about the growing India-US ties as they value diverse voices in society as well as promote inclusiveness, peace and peaceful resolution of disputes. “Why do you think China and Russia are so concerned about this partnership? Because we offer a way of life to the rest of the world that is about inclusiveness, peace, peaceful resolution of disputes, rule of law and it is about everyone’s voice being heard in society,” Under Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma said in response to a question after making comments on India-US ties at the prestigious Hudson Institute.
‘The world would be a safer place’
Minister Richard Verma said that the relationship between India and the US is “very different” from the practices of some of America’s adversaries. He said that due to this uniqueness, President Joe Biden has described the relationship between the two countries as the “defining relationship of this century”. He said that nearly 20 years ago when he was standing with then Senator Biden and Chief of Staff Tony Blinken in the Senate, Biden had remarked that if the US and India were the closest friends and partners by 2020, the world would be a safer place.

The US diplomat said, “I think it is about like-minded countries.” Responding to a question on ‘Quad’, Verma said that its objective is to promote peace, security, stability and prosperity. A spokesperson for the US President had earlier said that Biden would host the fourth summit of Quad leaders at his residence in Delaware. India was to host the Quad this year but now it will organize this summit next year. (Language)
