Beijing: It is often said that whatever happens in China, there is hardly any news in the media. But, the kind of news that has come out from China now is shocking. A new textbook in China warns that ‘rock and roll, pop music and internet etc. can be used to incite Chinese youth for “color revolution”. China has named the alleged subversion instigated by Western powers as well as efforts to infiltrate various sectors of society and promote unrest to overthrow governments as “color revolution”. The new textbook on national security was officially released last week. It is being seen as China’s latest move to strengthen ideological control and promote national security among young Chinese people.
The curriculum will be implemented
According to the People’s Daily, the mouthpiece of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), the new national security book for college students will be used in the basic course on national security education in universities. New textbooks have also been released for primary and junior high schools that focus on national security and traditional culture, CCTV reported.
These things are said in the book
According to the textbook, university students should be cautious about Western culture and beware of the trap of “color revolution” while using the Internet, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post newspaper reported on Wednesday. “The Internet is a major medium of communication; popular culture such as pop and rock music is often used as a cover for ‘color revolution’,” the textbook warns. It mentions various movements in Tunisia, Arab countries etc. and argues that those movements led to turmoil in countries. The new textbook is based on various speeches given by 71-year-old President Xi Jinping on national security. (Language)
