‘Bangladesh is sentenced to death’
The embassy said that the Bangladesh government takes a very strict attitude in cases of human trafficking. If a person is found involved in human trafficking through fake marriage, strict action can be taken on him. In Bangladesh, there may be a fine of at least seven years of jail, life imprisonment or even 5,00,000 taka (about Rs 3.5 lakh) on charges of human trafficking. Those who abetment, plan or help smuggling may be fined three to seven years in jail and 20,000 taka. The embassy also said that the judicial process in Bangladesh is often prolonged. It can take months or years from the arrest of any person to the sentence.
