Beijing: China has established its first atmospheric monitoring station in Antarctica. China is strengthening its presence in this icy and resource-rich southern continent by building this research station. According to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), work has started on Sunday at the Zhongshan National Atmospheric Background Administration (CMA) located in the ‘Larsman Hills’ of East Antarctica.
Information related to atmosphere structure will be available
“The station will conduct continuous and long-term operation overviews of changes in concentrations of atmospheric components over Antarctica,” an article published Monday on the CMA website said. Along with this, it will also provide reliable data and information about the average state of characteristics related to atmospheric structure in the region.

China is testing monitoring stations
The article said the monitoring data will “study the global response to climate change,” the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported. It is China’s ninth atmospheric monitoring station and its first station abroad. In addition, 10 new atmospheric monitoring stations are currently being tested in China.
The impact of human activities on the environment will be studied
Ding Mingyu, director of the Institute of Global Change and Polar Meteorology of the Chinese Academy of Meteorology, said that the observations of the new station will provide a lot of information. This will also help in studying the impact of human activities on the environment. (Language)
