Washington: Chinese hackers have created a stir by hacking the American broadband providers network. The federal government uses the information obtained for court-authorized wiretapping. According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), China has hacked the entire wiretap system of the American court.
The WSJ, citing several people familiar with the matter, said that America’s Verizon Communications, AT&T and Lumen Technologies are among the telecom networking companies that have recently been detected in intrusions and breaches. The newspaper said it appeared that “hackers had for months accessed the infrastructure networks used by companies to cooperate with US court-authorized requests.” Additionally, the hackers also accessed other segments of Internet traffic. But China’s Foreign Ministry has not yet responded to Reuters’ request for an official statement on this. However, Beijing has previously denied such claims by the US government and others of using hackers to break into foreign computer systems. The Wall Street Journal said the attack was carried out by a Chinese hacking group for the purpose of gathering intelligence. American investigators have dubbed it a “salt typhoon”.
