Cholera havoc in Sudan : Cholera is spreading rapidly in Sudan’s white nile state, causing the situation to become serious. According to non-governmental organizations (NGO), 83 people have died in the last 72 hours, while 1,197 people are infected. Of these, 259 patients have become healthy.
Lack of beds in hospitals, awareness campaign needs
Health experts and NGOs have demanded from the government that additional beds should be provided in hospitals in view of the increasing number of patients. At the same time, an appeal has also been made to intensify awareness campaign, free infection of markets and take measures for water purification.
Health status in Costi is very worrying
Local volunteer groups have warned that the situation in the city of Costy is serious. So far, more than 800 cholera cases have been registered and many deaths have occurred.
Symptoms of dehydration, vomiting and diarrhea are being seen in patients, which has increased pressure on hospitals.
Government takes strict steps
In view of the increasing outbreak of cholera, the local administration has increased the monitoring of water sources. The collecting water from the river has been banned and chlorination measures have been intensified in the water distribution system.
Markets and several restaurants have also been closed.
Vaccination campaign started
Sudan’s Health Ministry on Saturday announced a cholera vaccination campaign in the White Nile State.
Under this campaign, vaccines will be provided to citizens of one year and older in Kosti and Rabak cities, so that the spread of the disease can be prevented.
